"After many horrible and financially draining experiences with web design companies we were hesitant to join up with another one,
but after our first meeting we knew you were different. You actually listened to what we wanted
instead of instantly selling us a bunch of jargon. In the end we got exactly what we needed and we couldn't be happier."

Filed under: Branding - Who it is. — OpenUX @ 10:09 pm

Who uses favicons?

Favicons are on all the major websites, you probably recognize many of these favicons?

Corporate Favicons

What is a favicon?

A favicon is a 16 pixel by 16 pixel image, usually a small version of a company’s logo, that is used to identify a company in a browser and in a list of bookmarks. This is what ours looks like:

OpenUX's Favicon

Where does a favicon show up?

It appears in the address bar, tabs, and next to the name of a page you’ve bookmarked.

When should a company use different favicons?

A business should have multiple favicons: one for the main page and for all general site pages, and one for each page that would be more easily recognized with a different favicon. Pages such as blog and newsletter pages, link pages, product pages, etc. We are a visual society, the easier you make it for your visitors to identify your website, webpages, products, bookmarks, etc. the more apt they are to return and return often.

Why should a business have a favicon?

Favicons lend credibility to your business. They also make your site more easily recognized when multiple browser windows or tabs are open and your bookmarked links will stand out amongst the un-faviconed. Most importantly though, a favicon will reinforce your brand recognition.

Summary

Everysite should have a well design favicon. Something easily and quickly recognized, like one of favicons in the image below. If you want a favicon created for your business call us today at (314) 225-5881.
